vella

A super simple way to write branching story games.

vella is (hopefully) the easiest way to write branching story-based text games, playable right in your terminal. To get started, you can download vella and play the interactive tutorial/Q&A.

vella stories are split up into text entries, body text, and pairs of prompts and targets. You can write scripts for a vella game wherever you are most comfortable writing just about anything else. Start by playing (and reading) the interactive script.

Quick start:

1. Download vella and open the script.vel file in your notepad or text editor.
2. Run vella and see how the script feeds into the choices of the tutorial.
3. Write your own story and copy/paste into the script.vel file.
